Where the course
takes place

La Bourdique, where the course is based, is an old, recently restored farmhouse in the peaceful, hilly countryside of the South Aveyron. The house has been sympathetically updated to retain its original beamed charm. It is a comfortable, welcoming house with three double or twin bedded guest rooms. Two have their own spacious bath or shower rooms, with tiles hand made at Terre Cuite de Roujols. The third bedroom shares a shower room. Linen is all of high quality and towels are changed mid week. The comfortable beds and mattresses are in new condition. Rooms and bathrooms are kept clean during the week by a local helper.

From each room there are wonderful, far reaching views over the unspoiled countryside. La Bourdique's garden is large enough to provide several different areas where you can retreat to read, to write, to paint or just to sit letting the peaceful views inspire you.

Should there be more course participants than La Bourdique can accommodate, guests will stay in an equally comfortable house in the village, only three minutes' walk away. Apart from breakfast, other meals included in the course price will be taken at La Bourdique

Martrin, the village in which the property is situated, is set in the Parc Naturel des Grands Causses. an area of great natural beauty. The village is an old centre of the Knights Hospitalier whose 15th Century tower now forms part of the 19th Century church.

This is an unspoiled area, its hills studded with chestnut and pine forests, its valleys tied together by the Tarn and the Rance rivers.

The river Tarn is some twenty minutes away by car and, if you decide to venture further afield during the afternoon, you can drive beside it, stopping along the way for coffee and a patisserie, or see its silver streak far below as you cross from one valley to another.

Mealtimes are convivial occasions where delicious food and wine is served.

The day begins with breakfast at 8.30 a.m. in the dining room, which is furnished with French farmhouse antiques. You can look forward to orange juice, fresh croissants or one of the many local breads, homemade jam, coffee or tea. Yoghurt and fruit will also be on the breakfast table and, for those with a heartier appetite, eggs can be provided on request.

Dinner on Sunday evening is included in the course fee. During the week, half board is provided at La Bourdique, that is breakfast and one other main meal. The meal not provided at La Boudique each day is the responsibility of each guest.

Usually, lunch will be served at 1.30 p.m. at La Bourdique but, because the local bistro closes on two evenings a week, on those evenings dinner instead will be served at La Bourdique and lunch will, on those days, be the responsibility of the guest. These arrangements, which are subject to change by the bistro, will be clarified when you arrive. Should you prefer to have an additional, lighter meal provided by La Bourdique, an additional charge will be made.

If the weather is fine, lunch or dinner may be served in the newly opened loggia next to the house. On the infrequent rainy days of summer, we shall dine at the big farmhouse table in the dining room. A local French woman, who cooks at La Bourdique during the course, uses the produce for which the area is famous. The Carles Roquefort cheese dairy is just down the road so this king of cheeses makes royal appearances on the menu.

Meals will usually contain meat or fish but we will happily cater for vegetarian participants. If you are vegetarian or have any other particular food requirements, please let us know well in advance.
